Project Against Food Waste
Amazing Leftover Recipes from Markas Employees
Last year, Markas used the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste as a starting point for its own Leftover Recipe Competition to raise awareness about food waste. With this initiative, we aimed to increase awareness of food waste while simultaneously showcasing how delicious meals can be created from leftover ingredients.
The facts are alarming: One-third of all food ends up in the trash. In Austria alone, approximately 229,000 tons of food are discarded as residual waste every year. With the Leftover Recipe Competition, we invited our employees to share their best ideas for reusing leftover food – all under the motto: “Turning Old into Delicious!”
Creativity Meets Sustainability – The Best Leftover Recipe Has Been Chosen
Numerous creative and innovative recipes were submitted, impressively demonstrating the versatility of leftover food. From hearty casseroles to sweet delicacies – there was something for everyone!
After careful evaluation, the best leftover recipe was chosen. As a reward, the winner received a shopping voucher and a certificate in recognition of their innovative idea and commitment to combating food waste.
All submitted recipes were compiled into a digital collection, now available to all employees. This collection serves not only as a source of inspiration for everyday cooking but also actively supports the reduction of food waste within the company.

United Against Food Waste
With this initiative, Markas has made another valuable contribution to raising awareness as part of its Workplace Health Promotion program, demonstrating that sustainability and enjoyment can go hand in hand.
We sincerely thank all participants for their creative contributions and their commitment to reducing food waste. Let’s continue to work together towards a more sustainable future!
