Fatherhood: a journey of love, commitment, and everyday moments

Being a father is a wonderful journey filled with love, responsibility, and challenges of raising a child. It is about being present, setting an example, and embracing the emotional depth of guiding a little one through life. Just as we shared stories of motherhood last year on Mother’s Day, today we turn the spotlight on the fathers of Markas and their experiences.

In celebration of Father’s Day, we spoke with five Markas dads who share personal experiences about highlighting how it is both deeply personal and universally meaningful.

"Presence, responsibility and commitment" – Alberico Fiore, Surface Estimation Specialist

For Alberico, fatherhood is more than just a title, it’s a profound responsibility to be truly present for his child. "Being a father doesn’t just mean being physically there, but truly present in your child’s life. It means listening to them, understanding them, playing with them, and supporting them in both happy and challenging times."

Becoming a father reshaped his entire life: "If before, my free time was just for myself, my partner, or my friends, after my child was born, priorities naturally reorganized." And the most rewarding moment? "When my son waits for me at the door, calling out ‘Dad!’"

Balancing work and family is never easy, but Alberico has found a way to make it work: "Smart working, which we have the opportunity to do at Markas, is a great help in managing time effectively and ensuring greater flexibility. In the end, balancing work, family, and free time requires organization and flexibility, but it’s always worth striving for."

His advice for future dads? "Never give up. The first months might feel overwhelming, but every sacrifice is worth it. Enjoy every family moment because some of them will never come back."

"Unconditional love, responsibility and the true sense of family" – Alessio Bertagnolli, Key Account Manager

Fatherhood brought Alessio a newfound perspective on life: "Your priorities change, some certainties turn into doubts, and you discover a new sense of happiness, excitement, and sensitivity for small gestures that you never even noticed before."

Juggling work and family remains a challenge: "I never imagined how much work and fatherhood would clash. Work has always been my passion, but finding the right balance is a constant challenge. The key is careful planning and, most importantly, the support of those around you."

For new dads, his advice is simple but powerful: "Take time as soon as you can to spend one-on-one days with your child. Building a strong bond takes dedication, and the more time you share, the deeper it will grow. You'll also discover new sides of yourself along the way.”

"Responsibility, worry and love" – Daniele Amodio, AM Cost Analysis Team Leader

Daniele, a father for just 48 days, is still in the early days of this incredible journey, filled with new emotions every day: "The responsibility of guiding and protecting my child, the constant worry of being good enough, and, above all, the love that makes all the struggles disappear."

His entire life has shifted in unexpected ways: "I’ve learned to prioritize what truly matters. I’ve discovered an unexpected patience within myself, and I know that even though there will be sacrifices, they will be more than compensated by the emotions I will experience."

Work-life balance is still a work in progress, but he is grateful for the flexibility he has: "I’m still at the beginning of this journey, and I can say that finding balance is a constant challenge. However, having the opportunity to do smart working twice a week is a great advantage."

His advice? "Have patience. Challenges will come, but supporting the mother from the very beginning is essential. This journey is beautiful but also very intense."

"Love, responsibility and dedication" – Luca Biagi, Key Account Manager Junior

For Luca, fatherhood has completely reshaped his priorities: "Now, priorities are different. My days are more intense but also filled with love. Yes, the exhaustion has increased, but so has my happiness."

Balancing work and family requires careful planning, and his wife plays a key role in making it work: "We plan our time together carefully, ensuring that we are present for our child in important moments. Whether it's the first day of school, the Christmas play, or those little things that mean so much to her, we always try to be there.”

His message to future dads? "Enjoy every moment, even the stressful ones. You don’t have to be perfect: you just have to be there. Presence, listening, and love are what truly matter."

"Responsibility, availability and consistency" – Walter Nardon, Technical Planning Specialist

As a father to a toddler, Walter’s days revolve around his child’s needs: “As a father, your focus shifts. Your world starts revolving around your child, especially at this young age. Our daily life follows his routine, such as nursery school, free time, and evenings with us.”

Fortunately, Markas provides the flexibility he needs to be there for his son: "Flexible working hours are a huge help. In the morning, I take care of getting him ready and bringing him to nursery school. If I didn’t have this flexibility, I wouldn’t be able to manage. Smart working also allows me to juggle responsibilities without compromising my workday."

His advice? "Every family has its own reality and needs. Fatherhood is a lifelong commitment, but the love you receive in return is priceless. Stay positive, even through the challenges."
