How to make breakfast fun and tasty

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

For both adults and children, there is no better choice than a healthy and balanced breakfast to face the day or the start of the school year with the right amount of energy.

The benefits of a balanced breakfast are numerous: not only does it provide the necessary energy for our body and brain, but it also helps prevent weight gain.

Moreover, children who start their day with a complete breakfast are more likely to maintain healthy eating habits throughout the day.

On the other hand, those who skip breakfast tend to feel hungry mid-morning, often reaching for tempting but unhealthy snacks, which can spoil their appetite for lunch.
To prevent children from skipping this important meal, it’s essential to make breakfast a fun and shared experience. Here’s how.

Which foods for a healthy breakfast?

Many foods contribute to a nutritious and balanced breakfast, such as cereals, whole-grain toast, or porridge, as they are a primary source of carbohydrates essential for providing energy to the body.

Milk, yogurt, and cheese provide proteins as well as calcium, which is crucial for the growth and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth.

Fresh fruits and vegetables should never be missing, as they are rich in vitamins, minerals, and liquids. They protect the immune system and ensure proper organ function.

Finally, dried fruits such as walnuts, almonds, and hazelnuts are excellent sources of essential fats, proteins, and minerals, while a little jam can (without overdoing it!) offer a quick boost of energy thanks to its simple sugars.

Involving the children

Making breakfast a shared and fun moment is a great way to encourage children not to skip this meal.
Involving them, for example, in choosing or preparing a recipe will excite and motivate them to eat what they’ve helped to create.

Here's an example they can customize with their favorite ingredients, transforming breakfast into a special and delicious moment not just for them, but for the whole family:

Recipe for porridge with fresh and dried fruit

Ingredients
  • 30 g of rolled oats
  • 100 ml of semi-skimmed milk
  • A pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Fresh fruit to taste
  • Dried fruit to taste (choose from: almonds, hazelnuts, or walnuts)

Preparation

  1. Pour the milk into a saucepan and add the rolled oats. Cook over low heat for at least 10 minutes, stirring often to create a smooth mixture.

  2. Once the mixture begins to thicken, if desired, add a pinch of cinnamon and mix the ingredients well to ensure a uniform flavor.

  3. The porridge is ready. Pour it into a bowl and decorate with pieces of fresh and dried fruit as desired.
